72% of Peruvians approve Lava Jato prosecution team

72% of Peruvians approve of the Lava Jato Case Special Prosecution Group's performance, while 18% disapprove of it, the latest Ipsos Peru poll has revealed.


Published in El Comercio newspaper on Wednesday, the survey shows that 69% of respondents believe former Odebrecht representative in Peru Jorge Barata has said the truth —but not the whole truth— about the money delivered to Peruvian politicians.

Likewise, 17% of citizens think Barata has lied and accused innocent people, whereas 6% indicate he has said the whole truth, and 8% do not specify. 

Concerning the approval of State-run institutions, 33% of Peruvians agree with the work done by the Judiciary. Meanwhile, 57% disapprove of it, and 10% do not know/do not specify on the matter.

On the other hand, 38% approve of the performance of the Public Ministry, 52% disapprove of it, and 10% do not specify.

In Peru, the Public Ministry is independent from the Executive Branch.
